The Face Behind the Camera
My name is Samantha, a professional newborn photographer based in Edmonton, Alberta.
My photography studio began with a love story—much like the one that brought your baby into the world.
When I was 13 years old, I dreamed of becoming a perfumer. Even then, I knew I was equally drawn to science and art. After earning my Bachelor of Science from the U of A, I received an offer to study at one of the world’s most prestigious schools of perfumery in Paris.
Then life had other plans.
Love asked me to pause that dream.
Do I feel a little sad about it? Of course. I spent nearly ten years preparing for the competitive entrance exams and interviews. But do I regret my decision?
Never.
I spent several years then exploring, learning, and discovering my path. Eventually, I realized something important: I was still the same person who loved both science and art. So I found Photography.
Photography combines both worlds beautifully. Understanding light, color, composition, and technology satisfies the scientist in me, while capturing genuine emotion fulfills the artist. To me, a camera is much like a perfume bottle, it preserves something invisible. A fragrance can instantly bring back a memory years later. A photograph does the same. It captures love, seals it in time, and allows those precious moments to come alive again as the years pass.
Today, instead of creating fragrances in a laboratory, I use my knowledge of light, safety, and photography to create timeless portraits for growing families.
As a newborn and maternity photographer, I feel incredibly privileged to document the beginning of your baby’s story. My greatest hope is that years from now, your children will flip through these photographs, smile, and say,
“That was little me.”
